The dinner was amazing, the staff extremely nice. Our room had a beautiful view on the mountains. The onsen was super nice, with an inside and an outside bath. We had booked a big room and were not disappointed! It is in the main area but super quiet. Would highly recommend.

Excellent choice. The location is great; it can be reached by foot in around 10-15mins walking from the ferry port or you can call them before boarding the ferry and they can pick you (also they can take you to the port after check out). The room was charming and very quiet, with a nice view to the mountain. If you're visiting Hiroshima, staying in Miyajima is the best option. You can walk around the town and enjoy the different feelings when the streets are empty at noon. The manager Taka is absolutely kind and an awesome host. When we return to Miyajima we will stay there again.

Our family - including two teenage boys - stayed in a very large suite with both traditional and Japanese sleeping areas (both very comfortable) with a beautiful view. It had plenty of space including two sitting areas that served four people well. Our standout experience at this property was the kaiseki dinner that was included in our stay (don't forget to choose this option when booking). The dinner and service provided by the very warm, attentive staff was beyond exceptional. I was not expecting such an extensive and unique culinary experience (as well as the kind servers who we engaged to explain how to properly eat it!) My family truly felt like royalty and we were honored to spend time at this property.

This was our first Ryokan experience and it was wonderful! We arrived a little before check-in and they offered us a cold drink as we were so sweaty from our walk in the heat. We could have taken the shuttle, but it didn't look far on the map. I highly recommend the shuttle (we took it when we left). The hotel decor is nice if a little dated, but I quite like the minimalist mid-century modern look so that was actually a plus for me. I had booked a traditional Japanese room which was lovely but quite uncomfortable for sleeping. Also, the room was not quite cool enough for us. So the next night, we requested a western room and it was magnificent! Huge with two beds, much cooler temp, beautiful view, luxury bathroom, and just a pleasure to stay in. They also provide you with Yukata (traditional robes) to wear around the hotel and I really enjoyed that. We used the public onsen and it was very relaxing with clean facilities. Dinner and breakfast was included. The traditional Japanese dinner on the first night was well done with an attentive server, but we eat a mostly vegetarian diet and found all of the seafood a bit much. So the next night, we opted to just go out and get our own dinner. (One thing to note is that the island pretty much closes after 5 when all the tourists leave so it's not great for dining options.) We chose the continental style breakfast for the two mornings we were there and it was very nice. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We don't speak Japanese, but they managed to help us with one staff member who does speak English and we used our phones to translate at other times.

This is a beautiful hotel with wonderful staff. We loved the view from our room, the amenities, and the gift shop. However, due to timing (our issue not theirs) we didn’t get to use as much of the hotel amenities as we should have. So I can’t review as much as I would have liked. One major standout is the room perks. Our room had a tub on the balcony that was so great at the end of the day. The shampoo and stuff were from locctaine (sp?) and we got a trial set of a nightly face regime. It was like being at a spa! And they included a few of the local delicacy cookies/treats. The staff was so accommodating and we even got to do a luggage transfer through the gift shop that really helped us over the next few days after our stay.

Our room was WONDERFUL - huge, very pretty, squeaky clean, super comfortable. It had an outside deck with spectacular mountain and ocean views, including the Torii gate. We had a blast just exploring the room (and hotel) and checking out the amenities! The included kaiseki dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented and delicious! One of our guests had dietary restrictions (due to celiac); the staff was incredibly accommodating with careful attention to detail. Her meals were just as beautiful and tasty as everyone else's. Every single person on the staff was friendly, welcoming and gracious. Our stay at the Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto was unanimously the highlight of our time in Japan!

Our stand-out favorite place during our trip to Japan. This hotel was the experience we wanted while staying on the very special island of Miyajima. I understand the Miyajima Grand is the oldest hotel/ryokans on the island. We opted for the more traditional style room with tatami floors. The room was an immersion into culture and beauty, with sitting room, makeup area, and the main are that served a place to enjoy tea, or the bedroom when the rolled out your bed during dinner. The staff here was beyond friendly and helpful. It is our goal in most places to not be "those rude westerners," so we asked about certain customs and manners, and the kindly helped. You are provided a very nice Yukata to wear about the hotel and dinner. At night, most of the tourists were gone, and we took a full moon walk to the shrine two minutes away and got some amazing pictures. It is like being in another time, with people strolling about in their yukatas, and looking out at the sea overshadowed by the mountain in silence. The kaiseki dinner was incredibly good, as was the breakfast, do not miss your opportunity to experience it. Their onsen was one of the nicest ones we visited in Japan. Excellent facilities with three tubs starting from inside to two outside in their beautiful garden. The hotel emphasizes a respect for nature and their environment, and we did not want to leave.

This is an amazing place with the nicest customer service we’ve ever experienced. Our breakfast and dinner was included and top notch! Every detail was beautiful. We DID sleep on futons on the floor in our room, which is a different but amazing experience. We did call the shuttle at the hotel to get us from the ferry landing, and the driver was the nicest person ever! Miyajima at night is so magical, after the crowds leave for the day. If you’re on the fence about staying a night or two, JUST DO IT!!!!

Unbeatable location and great shuttle service to and from the property. The building itself is large and is feeling its age, but is well maintained and staffed by very attentive attendants. I was really struck by how our premium room was half western and half traditional. Never stayed in a hotel quite like this. Public bath on the ground floor is clean, well maintained and got plenty of use during our stay. Visitors opting for the full meal program will be treated with excellent Japanese breakfast and Dinner. The portions are generous, and the menu varies from day-to-day. It's worth noting that if you opt for a Western breakfast you are going to be dissapointed.

The hotel was amazing, as were the staff. The room was beyond belief in how nice it was and the outdoor bath was a treat that we will never forget. We got access to a private lounge with the room which provided nice snacks and beverages. The extra amenities in the hotel like the onsen and garden were amazing free additions. We got a Japanese style breakfast served in our room for free, and the staff gave me and my fiancée a small gift when they found out about our engagement
